What Is Baltic Amber?
Golden Resin Crafted by Time & Nature
Formed in the Baltic Sea region over 40 million years ago, Baltic amber is the fossilised resin of ancient conifer trees.
The amber used in our jewellery is sourced from trusted suppliers in Poland and the Baltic states, where the material is still regularly collected and mined along the Baltic Sea region.
All of our amber pieces come from The Amber Centre, a small, family-owned business established in 1999 and known for their craftsmanship, authenticity, and long-standing dedication to Baltic amber.
What Makes Baltic Amber Special?
During the extremely long fossilisation that amber undergoes, various external factors change the amber’s colour.
It’s thanks to these factors that every single amber jewellery piece can be unique in its own way!
Oxidation: Exposure to oxygen and the sun causes amber to darken. A clear or yellow piece can become a deeper reddish-brown over time as its surface oxidizes.
Inclusions: The presence of other materials during the fossilization process creates unique colors.
- Opaque/white: A high number of tiny air bubbles can cause a cloudy or milky appearance.
- Green: Exposure to marshy environments with decaying organic matter before fossilization can result in a green color.
- Black: Common black amber often contains a large amount of tree bark or other vegetable matter.

Pressure and temperature: The pressure and temperature during the long fossilization process affect the amber’s internal structure and transparency, which in turn influences its color.

But perhaps the most special thing about amber is that you can find some with preserved plants or insects!
Providing a glimpse into the ancient past, amber with well preserved flora and fauna are highly sought after.
